Capacity Field Confirmed for 2016 The Galaxy

March 16th, 2016

A talented field of fourteen sprinters plus four emergencies has been confirmed for Saturday’s 2016 Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens; highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Autumn Carnival’s most exciting short course specialists.

Flamberge charged home to win the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at big odds last start but has been charged with overcoming the outside barrier for his run in The Galaxy.

Beating a classy field to the line for a maiden Group 1 win in The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville in May last year, Flamberge resumed in spring for second in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) before finishing sixth in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m).

Returning to winning form in the Listed Durbridge Stakes (1200m) on October 17th, the Exceed And Excel gelding ended his year seventh in the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m).

Damien Lane retains the ride on the popular gelding who has also been charged with lugging a race-high 58kgs.

Terravista was unlucky to miss last week’s Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) but could very well receive the run of the race in The Galaxy from barrier 3.

Winner of the 2014 edition of the Darley Classic, Terravista was unable to return to winning form through a strong 2015 campaign but returned this time for an agonizingly-close second in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) in mid-February.

Trainer Joe Pride has been confirmed to launch a two-pronged attack on The Galaxy after also including Ball Of Muscle in the final field.

Finishing outside the first three only once in eighteen career starts, Ball Of Muscle resumed in 2015 for second in each of the 3aw Community Raceday Handicap (1000m) and Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) before taking out the Group 2 QTC Cup (1200m) on May 30th.

Returning in spring for third in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) the Dubawi gelding placed second in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) before again finishing second in the Moir Stakes; ending his season third in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1000m).

Sure to have taken benefit from a first-up run for sixth in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m), Ball Of Muscle will leave from barrier 9 with Tim Clark aboard this weekend.

Our Boy Malachi was unable to handle the late pace in the talent-rich Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) last start but is arguably offered his best chance of a maiden win at the highest level in The Galaxy.

Winning each of the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) and Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) in his first preparation for Team Hawkes through the 2014/15 summer, Our Boy Malachi returned last autumn for success in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) before finishing third in the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m).

Suffering a bleeding attack during the running of the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m), the Top Echelon gelding resumed this time for a comfortable win in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) in his only other start prior to the Canterbury Stakes.

Our Boy Malachi is yet to have a jockey confirmed for his run in The Galaxy and will leave from barrier 14.
