2016 The Galaxy Tips and Betting Preview

March 18th, 2016

A talented and capacity field of fourteen runners has been confirmed for the 2016 Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m); undoubtedly figuring as the most lucrative race from a betting perspective at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

This morning’s scratching of clear market mover Flamberge has led to plenty of movement in 2016 The Galaxy betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, however the Gai Waterhouse-trained English remains outright $4.40 favourite ahead of Terravista and Fell Swoop tied on the second line at $6 quotes.

Will English justify favouritism and win the 2016 The Galaxy or will one of her many talented rivals post an upset?

1st

Terravista ($6)

Standout sprinter Terravista is undoubtedly the class horse of the 2016 The Galaxy field but enters the race off the back of a minor hoof complaint; owing to his generous $6 odds to win. A Group 1 winner having taken out the 2014 edition of the Darley Classic (1200m), the Captain Rio gelding produced an impressive turn of foot to finish an agonizingly-close second to Chautauqua in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) first-up this time. Sure to relish a step-up to 1100m, Terravista will be partnered by leading hoop Hugh Bowman from the ideal barrier 3.

2nd

Shiraz ($12)

Shiraz has been a strong and consistent performer for Tony McEvoy through recent season and represents terrific value for money at current 2016 The Galaxy odds of $12 to win or $3.80 to finish in the first three. Resuming last winter for consecutive wins in Rosehill races over 1100m and 1200m, the Zariz gelding beat a talented field to the line in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) before repeating the dose in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m). Running third in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) and sixth in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1100m) before returning to the paddock, Shiraz is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from a first-up run for fourth in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) a fortnight ago.

3rd

Ball Of Muscle ($14)

A stable mate to Terravista, Ball Of Muscle has finished outside the first three only once in eighteen career starts and will relish the conditions of The Galaxy. Running second in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) and winning the Group 2 QTC Cup (1200m) during a strong winter campaign, the Dubawi gelding finished in the places in each of the Concorde Stakes and The Shorts before finishing second to Buffering in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m). Having returned to the paddock after placing third in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1000m), Ball Of Muscle will have also taken benefit from his run in the Challenge Stakes first-up.
