Russian Revolution wins 2017 Galaxy

March 18th, 2017

Three year old Russian Revolution was able to beat the older horses in the Group 1 $700,000 Nathan’s Famous Hotdogs Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill today.

Co-trainers Peter and Paul Snowden were able to the provide the quinella with Russian Revolution ($2.90 favourite) beating his older stablemate Redzel ($9) by a short head in the slog to the line in the heavy conditions.

$51 outsider Jungle Edge was also in the fight down the straight and hung on for a close up third.

Russian Revolution only had to carry 50.5kg while Redzel had 54.5kg on his back and co-trainer Paul Snowden said the pull in the weights is what gave the three year old the winning advantage.

“We knew the weight was going to kick in at some stage and obviously it was sort of late in the last one hundred yards,” Paul Snowden said.

“That was the only difference, at the end of the day the pull in the weights.”

“Both horses have run terrific, you can’t ask for any better.”

Russian Revolution was heavily backed in the lead up to the Galaxy but the punters would have been on edge as he sweated up badly on the way to the barriers and then had to have his near back racing plate refitted behind the starting gates.

“It’s frustrating when you see those sort of things happening but it all ended well,” Paul Snowden said.

“That is just how he has been in the last week or so. He nearly threw the rider yesterday, he nearly threw her this morning so we have been handling him with kid gloves the last probably twenty-four, seventy-two hours.”

“He has been ready to go. Anything that happened did go wrong again and just before the start he threw a plate. He got away with it and this will tone him down again.”

Russian Revolution will now be aimed to take on the older horses again in the weight for age Group 1 $2.5m Darley T J Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 1, day one of ‘The Championships’.
